SEMESTER TEST WEEK: MONDAY; REVIEW FOR EVEN TUESDAY; EVEN TEST WEDNESDAY; REVIEW FOR ODD THURSDAY; ODD TEST FRIDAY; MAKEUP TEST
May 13 - 17
We will be moving to different classrooms everyday until the AP testing is through; which means until Semester Test Week. Since so many students will be absent taking tests we will use this time to make sure everyone is caught up on their work. and begin to prepare for the semester test.

We will be moving to different classrooms everyday until the AP testing is through; which means until Semester Test Week. Since so many students will be absent taking tests we will use this time to make sure everyone is caught up on their work. and begin to prepare for the semester test.
April 20 - May 3
This week we will be beginning a unit on Acids and Bases and pH. We don't have much time left and this will just be an introductory unit for this material. I will be displaced for the next two weeks due to AP Testing so we cannot run any more labs. We will do PHets on pH and Acids and Bases as well as look at videos which explain about pH, acids and bases. This material is in Unit 7 - Acids and Bases
April 23 - 26
Out on Monday. Lab on Molarity and then explanations about it. (You get to drink Koolaid!) Then we begin a Unit on Acid and Bases
April 15 - 18
We are working on Net Ionic Equations this week. We have had MANY interruptions, tests, days off, so not too much new going on. It's what we call a "Catchup" week. We will get everyone caught up hopefully and get ready to finish out the year. Have a great Easter Break!!
April 8 - 12
Change of plan. We realize that the year is going by much faster and we are running out of time and decided to go to Net Ionic Equations and Solutions in stead of States of Matter. After looking at the types of equations, we will then work molarity problems which no good chemistry student can do without!! We will work problems, quiz on the net ionics and learn how to molarity problems then hopefully a lab.
April 1 - 5
April is upon us and for us the school year is running out!!! FAST!!! We will finish Unit 4 with a quiz on Empirical and Molecular formulas. Then we will begin Unit 5 which is States of Matter. We will see how the kinetic theory of matter is responsible for solids, liquids and gases. Also in this unit we will work on the Gas Laws. We will be moving fast so buckle your seat belts.
March 25 - 20
Review to get back on track. Work on Limiting Reagents and Empirical Formulas. Finish the unit and have a test over all of the unit.
March 18-22
SPRING BREAK!!!
Mar 11 - 15
This is a short week before Spring Break. We will work on Stoichiometry one day and then quiz the next class since we will only have chass twice per odd and even this week. We will have an EARLY RELEASE on Thursday at 1:20 for Parent/Teacher conferences Friday students do NOT have to come to school. This is a PD day for teachers. Have a Great SPRING BREAK!!!!
Mar 4 - 8
End of third quarter on the 8th. Grades done this week. Beginning next quarter. Can you believe it? We're almost through?! Beginning Stoichiometry.. Learn to use equations to find Limiting reagents and excess reagents. We are doing Chemistry Folks!!! 2 weeks to Spring Break.
Feb 25 - Mar 1
Balancing equations!! All week long. Going over the 5 different types of reactions. Possibly getting to stoichiometry - limiting regents. Only three weeks (really 2 1/2) until Spring Break so we are in hustle mode!
Feb 18 - 22
This is crazy week! We are out on Monday - Holiday Wednesday the Juniors will take the ACT at school and can check out afterwards so attendance will be low for Juniors that day. We will have regular classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. (Ok for ODDS but not so good for EVENS) We will continue with Chemical equations, Balancing and then move on to the different kinds of chemical reactions.
Feb 11 - 15
Some classes will begin the week with their Quiz and Lab on Intermolecular Forces. THEN......... On to Chemical Reactions! Finally! And Stoichiometry. This is the careful quantitative (numbers) analysis of substances involved in chemical reactions. I'm excited to be at this point. Hope you are too. FYI - Friday is a Reward Day for students who have shown great behavior. We will let out at 11:05 and party in the indoor practice area. Lunch is there if you qualify.
Feb 4 - 8
One more week on Lewis Dot Structures, and intermolecular forces. We will have a short quiz and a lab that demonstrates intermolecular forces.
Jan 28 - Feb 1
Begin work on Lewis Dot Structures, VSEPR Theory, and intermolecular forces: Hydrogen Bonding, London Dispersion Forces and Dipole-dipole. Will so an activity to explain these concepts and show students the actual shapes.
Jan 21 - 25
School closed on Monday, Jan 21. Working percent composition problems and a test over molar mass and percent composition. Start Lewis Dot Structures and intermolecular forces. (IMF)
Jan 14 - 18
Working molar mass problems, formula mass problems and will start percent composition. These are important concepts and we will spend a little more time on them than other concepts.
Jan 7 - 11
Beginning of 3rd Nine Weeks, 2nd Semester We will begin with molar mass, formula mass, and percent composition
Dec 24 - Jan 4, 2019
CHRISTMAS VACATION
Dec 17 - 21

Oct 8 - 12
We will have a lab on chromatography. We are finishing up the first nine weeks so any work that needs to be made up must be done by Monday. We will then begin working on the periodic table and periodic trends. All labs are worth 20 points and must be made up, just a reminder. We meet with students before school (7:00) and after school (until 4:00) Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for tutoring and makeup. Students need to take advantage of this.
Oct 1 - 5
We will continue with atomic structure. Having a quiz on protons, neutrons and electrons. Then an emphasis on Isotopes and begin Mole conversions. We will have a lab on isotopes and I also have an intern from ASU which will begin to teach some of my classes. His name is Mr. Wolford.
Sept 24 -28
We are in full swing with atomic structure. We are looking at the subatomic particles, protons, neutrons, and electrons and where they are in the atom as well as what they do within the atom. We will also look at elements, compounds and mixtures. Those who missed the lab lat week onBonding will have to make it up this week. YOU MUST MAKE UP THIS LAB.
Sept 17 - 21
Retakes on the last unit test on Monday and Tuesday.. Begin Atomic Structure. Notes, virtual lab and Lab in class.
Sept 10 - 14
Test over precision and accuracy, percent error, dimensional analysis, scientific notation, conversion factors, significant figures, qualitative and quantitative observations and density. Begin new unit over Structure of Matter which will include atoms, bonding, naming and writing formulas as well as the periodic trends. Also there is a Pretest to Unit 2.

Aug. 20 - 24 This week is safety. We will do a lab and learn the equipment and then do a safety test. This wlll be our first test. We will then begin a beginning Unit on Matter. We also have an intern from ASU - Mr. Jacob Wolford for this semester. He is a chemistry major so we are glad to have him on board.
Aug. 13- 17
Welcome to PreAP Chemistry (PAP Chem)!! I'm so excited about this year we are going to have together learning about chemistry! This week we will begin by seeing what you have learned previously about chemistry and begin building on that along with safety in the lab.
Remember that you will need a three ring binder, pencils and paper to begin the year. LET'S DO THIS!!!
